I’m that small-town guy with big-city ambitions.
Growing up 50 miles south of Lawrence and attending school (K-8th Grade) about 70 miles southwest. My classrooms would be made up of eight or so children from various backgrounds, such as Amish, German Baptiste, and so on. Our school lunches, on the other hand, were the Bomb Diggity! From the buns to the green beans, everything was cooked from scratch and homegrown; the only prepackaged items I recall were milk and juice.
The cuisine at the high school where I attended was poor, and there were 500 students. As a result, we had to leave campus for lunch, with only the local grocery store Deli, Sonic, or DQ as possibilities. I never imagined things could be any worse. I was mistaken; in the last semester of my senior year, I moved and changed schools. There were 1,600 children at one school, and the lunches were cardboard. After graduation, I returned home for two years.
In 2017, I relocated to Lawrence, Kansas, otherwise known as “LFK.” It’s warm and inviting, and it’s brimming with activity. It is unquestionably unique. I wasn’t particularly adventurous the first year I lived here and cooked all of my meals. Oh, the restaurants, the food, and the readily accessible fresh local ingredients after the second year. I felt compelled to tell everyone about these locations. So that’s what I’m planning on doing, as well as sharing some of my own and learnt recipes. Along with other places where I eat along my life’s journey.
Cooking has always been a passion of mine, and to be honest, I also enjoy eating.
